Mayor's bodyguard opens fire in Nando's (S Africa)

JOHANNESBURG - The Sedibeng Municipality on Friday condemned the actions of a mayoral bodyguard who allegedly opened fire on a man in a Nando's in Vanderbijlpark.
Sedibeng Mayor Mahole Mofokeng was with two of his bodyguards at the fast food outlet on Wednesday night when one of them apparently shot and wounded a man.

A woman was also grazed by a bullet in the shooting.

The mayor’s spokesperson Lebo Mofokeng said the bodyguard was arrested on the scene and appeared in court on Thursday.
He was denied bail.

The matter has been postponed to 13 May for further investigation.

Nando's says it is offering counselling to its staff.
Company CEO Geoff Whyte says the restaurant is cooperating fully with police and has made its CCTV footage available to them.
