There has not been many replies or votes for this.
Re: Poll: What is the most important skill to have as a CPO?
I voted fitness, but on the assumption that included mental fitness as well as stamina and physical strength.
Re: Poll: What is the most important skill to have as a CPO?
Ah see, my option isn't in there!
Negotiation skills and verbal communication skills.
So I went for Surveillance detection as the best option for being aware of your surroundings and what is going on around you. Pre empting choke points, people that look out of place that kind of thing!!
But hey, thats the way I roll!!

As sworks, the ability to communicate, negotiate and read non-verbal communication is a must.

Only 2 have clicked on communication skills Mr Aitch
I went for Surveillance Detection.

Re: Poll: What is the most important skill to have as a CPO?
The reason I chose SD is because a BG with terrible communication skills won't get as far as the employment stage or won't be in the job very long....
A BG who doesn't have good communication skills won't be effective at all but his lack of comm skills won't have the same outcome as a BG with no SD skills.
As all attacks start with surveillance, a BG who can't spot it is slowly digging his principal's grave.

Re: Poll: What is the most important skill to have as a CPO?
I voted SD but first aid is just as important, if not more even.
Re: Poll: What is the most important skill to have as a CPO?
I initially voted SD too. I am wondering which poses the highest risk, (UK work) accidents and illness or an outside threat/attack?
Re: Poll: What is the most important skill to have as a CPO?
Medical is always the greatest risk with traffic accidents (leading to medical) second. For the vast majority of the time in permissible environments, the rest is mostly white noise (don;t tell anyone! :-).Sabre wrote:I initially voted SD too. Surprisingly there are no votes for First Aid.

Re: Poll: What is the most important skill to have as a CPO?
I think the question is too generic for any 'proper' answer. Differences in priority between personal and operational and criteria dependent on specific situational environments.

You are right Rich it is very generic.
We have not talked about location, threat etc....
I initially left out communication because before a CPO is on task he will usually go through a few interviews and if he can"t communicate he won't get to day 1 on the job.
Regarding First Aid, it depends on the location as well.
The location would dictate to what level first Aid training the CPO should be.
For instance the SIA said that FAAW is enough, maybe for the UK its enough but definitely not for HE work and treating IED casualties and bullet wounds.
In Europe a CPO with very little first aid knowledge could get away with it, the streets are busy and there is hundreds of people about with first aid knowledge.
I have noticed that when someone faints on the plane and they ask if there is a doctor sitting on the plane, there is always one!!!!
Medical services in a European town center would takes minutes if not seconds to arrive, big shops and shopping centers have dedicated paramedics and medical treatment rooms.
This is why I chose SD, it poses a great risk to not recognise an attack in preparation.
I read in the press yesterday Naomi Campbell was attacked in Paris, she was obviously under SV, nobody pinged the SV....

Surly NVC's would play a major part in SD? and I do mean when on foot, obviously a different ball game when in vehicles.

Patience is indeed very important.
It also comes with age and experience.
I can remember how impatient and I used to be in my early 20's....
