Medical Qualification needed for a CPO
I recently saw a post on medic quals for CP or Marsec and it seems many people are having a dilemma in choosing the right courses.
It seems some companies want Mira, and others want FPOS.
We know for sure that the FAAW is definitely not enough, especially for HE work.
I am no medic expert but having looked into it my advice would be to do the FPOS, and then go on to the EMT-B.
The FPOS is a step above the FAAW so its good to have before going on the EMT-B.
There is no point in paying a fortune for the MIRA as the EMT-B is a step above it, there would be no point in doing the Mira if you plan on doing the EMT-B

As we can see the prices range from £300 to £800.
A few Medical Training Providers know full well they are very well known on the circuit and they put the prices up knowing they will get many students whatever the price.
Personally, I would look for a less known/cheaper course that gives the FPOS-I, the aim is to get the FPOS-I and once I have verified the company and that the personnel are fully qualified that will be good enough for me.

Talking about EMT-Bs, what companies need that standard to hire you as an operator in Iraq ?
Olive states it on its recruitment website, yesterday a guy told me Aegis is getting the same. Any other names ?

Re: Medical Qualification needed for a CPO
Aegis are running with FPOS I on there current contracts but they ve just been awarded two oil and gas contracts so unsure of the requirement for them.
As for Olive i know they were asking for MIRA for there oil and gas contracts so i can see this all becoming quite confusing.
Im all for bettering myself and the industry as a whole but surely we need a set medical requirement instead of a lucky dip scenario when applying for jobs as in, i have MIRA but they want FPOS I or EMT-B or so on.

Re: Medical Qualification needed for a CPO
Tanman, couldn't agree with you more!
What is all that about! I have seen cv's where guys have Mira, FPOS and EMT-B.
Good on them for having those quals but I certainly don't have the funds to do 3 separate medic courses.
The standard seems to be FPOS, with a few companies asking for Mira.
But as I said, if you have EMT-B, no need for Mira.
I won't be doing more than 2 courses (fpos and Emt-b).
I did a TCCC operator course not so long ago.

Re: Medical Qualification needed for a CPO
I wouldnt mind if it was classed as progression,
FAAW 1st then move up a ladder system.
FPOS I
MIRA
EMT-B
At least then you know the money you are spending is going towards making yourself better skilled AND more employable.
As it stands its up in the air as you have these all at low level and then you jump to highly skilled as in Paramedic or Off shore medic with nothing in the middle so to speak.
I would happily spend money if i knew i was progressing but unfortunately at the minute its what the company decides on the day.

You have a few intermediate options, such as EMT-I or "EMT-Advanced". Doesn't exist in the UK or some US States, but AREMT and some other american states have it.
Otherwise, if you pass the Ambulance Technician course at Ronin, while your qual will be equivalent to EMT-B, employers will know that you are indeed more than that

Re: Medical Qualification needed for a CPO
Thanks for the info Woedendstier,
Funnily enough i was chatting to a mate after my previous post and he told me he s just completed his EMT I with Crown training in Swansea.
Would you say the EMT I is the next route to follow as such.

Yes, I would say so.
One of the best people to ask would be the SOS Group (present on this forum).
