PHMT- Pre Hospital Medical Technician- Anyone heard of it?
I was reading Issue 22 of the circuit magazine the other day and came across an article about a PHMT course.
I googled the PHMT course and nothing seems to come up on it apart from the provider called Medipro.
http://mediprotraining.co.uk/course/pre-hospital-medical-technician-rcs-ed
EMT seems to be a protected title therefore I now gather why all these courses are popping up, maybe best to stick with internationally recognised stuff such as the EMT-B.
You can't go wrong by doing an FPOSi, MIRA, or AREMT EMT-B, but I would stay away from all these new courses barely known of by anyone!
The feedback on the circuit are the following companies for the EMT-B:
http://www.thesosgroup.co.uk/index.php/medical/Emt---courses/emergency-medical-technician-basic
http://www.ppa-int.com/index.php/component/k2/itemlist/category/4-combat-medic-course
http://www.merit-training.com/courses/tactical-emt/
Would the medics on the forum agree with my above statements?

I'm not really a medic but I do agree with your statement.
The PHMT might be a good course from a what you learn perspectiv which is off course good. On the other hand after a brief look at the site you linked to the only awarding body they claim acknowledge their course is Royal collegue of Surgeons Edinbourgh which is of course good, but I suspect the ackreditation comes from the FPOS or MIRA certificat which is part of their course so ackreditation vise I believe you get a FPOS certificate and a MIRA certificate that is worth something and some home made certificate from Medipro to fill up a folder somewhere.
Not really that impressing actually.

Thanks for that Rikard.
Do you know if Merit Training Ltd are somehow connected to Ronin South Africa?
Merit send the students to South Africa for placement and also to Malta for the practical, Ronin also do the practical in Malta.
FYI Merit Training used to be called Remote Medicine Ireland
Remote Medicine Ireland has been renamed and rebranded. We are now Merit Training limited.

Remote Medicine Ireland has been renamed and rebranded. We are now Merit Training limited.
The creation of Remote Medicine Ireland has been a wonderful experience: In 2010 we noticed a need in Ireland for pre-hospital training for people who can think outside of the box and who would be willing to live and work in remote and difficult locations.
Building on this foundation we have forged links with organisations all over the world to connect our students to the best training opportunities and clinical experience available. We now have operations in South Africa, Moldova, United States, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
We create pathways for international careers.
Taking on the new name, Merit Training, signals a new chapter in our evolution as a company.
Re: PHMT- Pre Hospital Medical Technician- Anyone heard of it?
PHMT from Medipro doesn't mean anything, this is not a recognised course in the industry except for themselves to accept you in their Offshore medic course...
The RCSed accreditation just validate the course as a "legal" medical course, this is not a proof of quality.
I have spoken about it with medical instructor, anybody can teach a RCSed course if you respect the syllabus.
That's why MIRA from accredited EXMED training centres is more recognised in the industry because the quality standard is really high.
I can't speak about the SOS Group and Ronin that I don't know, but I can speak about PPA int and Merit Training.
PPA Int :
This is a Tactical EMT course, 6 days of AREMT-B course follow by 4 days of Tactical Trauma Life Support ( TTLS ) a non recognised version of TCCC.
Excellent teaching materials and trainees were been happy with their course. A course was held at the same time as my EMT-P classroom time.
Accomodation is included except food, two supermarkets are close to the training center but the prices are 30% higher than France, I spent 250 euros for three weeks of food...
No cleaner so you have to be a good boy and live as a team but it not make sense for everybody...
I never saw the director, no full time instructors just contractors, felling to be another student full of money just here to fill the company bank account.
Some trainees were already in the security industry in Libya, Irak or Afghanistan.
No prices on the website because it depends where you come from (a british will pay more than a polish for example)
Merit training :
I can't recommend them enough for my EMT-Paramedic course.
They follow their students from A to Z even after the course.
The director is an ex US green beret and has some contacts in the security and medical sector.
The prices are clear and what is included or not.
Two courses are available to become EMT-B :
pre paramedic course : http://www.merit-training.com/courses/pre-paramedic-course/
tactical EMT : http://www.merit-training.com/courses/tactical-emt/
for the last you can be AREMT-B or NREMT-B if you do your clinical placement in the USA and the tactical part is the TCCC course with EXMED in the UK.
To become EMT-B, you have to do a clinical placement (at least one week).
PPA propose placement in Serbia and Croatia.
Merit training in South Africa, Moldova and Malta.
The SOS group in Guatemala.

Maniac,
You are a star, what a superb post.
I knew I could smell a rat with that PHMT course!
Its a bit of a joke pricewise and now you are telling us the course is worth peanuts.
It just makes me very cross that so many TP's are popping up now, inventing new titles for unrecognised courses and newbies falling for it, spending thousands and then finding themselves jobless.
I don't know what the industry is coming to and the more experienced operators need to fight to keep high standards up and advise newcomers.
Thanks you have been a great help.
If you keep posting that way you will have no other option than to join the CPD Mod team.

Re: PHMT- Pre Hospital Medical Technician- Anyone heard of it?
New EMT provider called NERAMS, this one is supposed to be very good:

Re: PHMT- Pre Hospital Medical Technician- Anyone heard of it?
Nerams have a very cheap price when you consider flights and transfer to Romania are included….
Re: PHMT- Pre Hospital Medical Technician- Anyone heard of it?
Thanks for your proposition Ted, I appreciate.
I don't know anything about this new training provider.
Cheap ? let me see :
1800 pounds = 2180 euros
Merit training AREMT-B course : 750 euros
http://www.merit-training.com/courses/pre-paramedic-course/
I think you won't spend 1500 euros to go to Malta...
It could be interesting to send an email to know what is included and what is not.
Don't forget the clinical placement fee after the classroom time

Re: PHMT- Pre Hospital Medical Technician- Anyone heard of it?
Well pretty much everything has been said, I don't have much to add, except :
- I don't see Ronin collaborating with any another company for training. It simply cannot happen. Now if both Ronin and Merit train people in Malta, it is merely a coincidence, because the country has advantages in terms of firearms laws, etc etc...
- I like Merit as well. They think GLOBAL and outside the box, which is the way everyone should think in this industry. "What can I do in what country for what result", etc etc.
- It is quite simple indeed, there are the official, state recognized qualifications (FPOS, EMT-B/Ambulance technician, paramedic), and there are the industry-accepted, commercial quals (MIRA). It is up to you to chose which ones you want, for what result. EMT-I and Offshore Medic are a bit inbetween, they are official quals but not accepted for every role. You also have the unofficial quals which are not really regarded by the market i.e. Viper, Cobra, or whatever snake name which are nothing but a sexy FPOS.

The viper course you make reference to is Promotheus. They are quite a respected provider, but as you say, many providers give "sexy" names. I am more down to earth and tend to go for the recognised quals.
