HEAT course
I have been looking at the Hostile Environment Awareness Training courses. Has anyone been on one of these courses? Are they worth doing?
Re: HEAT course
I haven't yet seen a HEAT Course for CPO's.
HEAT courses are mostly aimed and specifically designed for non security staff having to go and work in hostile zones, or NGO's for example.
Best to do a HECPO course IMO or an anti kidnapping/SERE course.
CRI in the USA do some very good pre deployment/anti kidnapping courses.
He is called Doron B (ex Israeli SF)

Re: HEAT course
Thanks Ted, I thought the the HEAT courses were maybe geared more towards non-security staff. I have looked at HECPO courses but I think with my non Mil background my chances of working CP in a HE are non existent. I am really looking more from a personal security viewpoint really in case I find myself in a country with 'security issues'.
Re: HEAT course
Why not join the TA Sabre?
Although its true 90% of companies these days want ex mil, you will find there are guys on the circuit who have no military experience whatsoever and they do a very good job.
Re training, you could do the kidnap avoidance course with Simon Atkinson from Athena Intelligence. I have done it and it is great.

Re: HEAT course
I went through training with the TA in 2001/2002 but gained an injury on the two week course in Catterick, couldn't face going all through the basic training again the following year!
Thanks for the Athena information, I will have have a look at the course.
I am just hoping a long Security history and relevant training will help me in the future when looking for UK based CP work as I have got to compete against large numbers of ex-mil!
